The Beatles: The Lord of the Rings

Super Punch is having an interesting art competition this month. Apparently there was a time when The Beatles wanted to make The Lord of the Rings and have Stanley Kubrick direct. The competition is to create the movie poster as if the movie had been made. You can read more about the competition here.

This is my entry. It's definitely inspired by The Yellow Submarine. It was a lot of fun to do. I even went a little nuts and recreated the old United Artists and DeLuxe logos.

I hope you like it! If you want to enter, you still have until 8:00pm pacific time on January 2, 2011 to enter. There are some good prizes.

UPDATE: Holy Crap! I won!!! Woohoo!

Blast from my past: The Lord of the Rings

I was going through some stuff and ran across this piece of ... um... awesomeness, and thought I'd share. I probably drew this in 4th grade or so.

I had read the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings for the first time (of many) and the theatrical release of the animated movie was around that time. I didn't get to see it in the theater until I was in junior high, but at the time I thought the poster was so awesome.

This is a video I put together from stills I took during the full lunar eclipse on December 21, 2010.

The music is Nocturne by Daft Punk from the Tron: Legacy soundtrack.

Enjoy!

Huns 12 Bars of X-Mas 2010

Huns 12 Bars of X-Mas 2010, originally uploaded by manlyartjpc.
This years pub crawl t-shirt design featuring the Heat Miser from "A Year Without a Santa Claus". They had a fun idea: You check off every bar you make it to to weed out those who don't survive the whole crawl.

Sorry my posting has been a bit sparse of late. I've been bogged down in freelance design-type work (which is a good thing $$$) and haven't had as much time for the fun stuff. Things should start picking up around here in the next couple of weeks.
